NSRTC Celebrates Women's History Month
The North Salem Republican Town Committee celebrates Women's History month. Sandra Day O'Connor was the first female Supreme Court Justice in the United States. Justice O'Connor was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan, and served from 1981 until her retirement in 2006. Justice O'Connor stated, "We are fortunate in the United States to have a stable and a durable democratic government. But we can't be complacent in assuming this good fortune will continue... It is the citizens of our nation who must preserve our system of government, and we cannot forget that."
Justice Sandra Day O'Connor had a lifetime of accomplishments under her belt, and "President Barack Obama awarded Justice O’Connor with the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, on August 12, 2009" (Supremecourt.gov).
