Here we are in the thick of October. The houses are decorated for Halloween, the trees are showing off their beautiful fall colors and the leaves are starting to fall. In other words, it’s perfect. Now that the weekend is upon us, there are plenty of local opportunities to get out and celebrate the season. Read on for our top weekend picks.

Start your weekend off right with head-clearing outdoor exercise. The Bedford Riding Lanes Association is hosting a trail run and yoga session. The event kicks off with a guided trail run of about two miles, followed by a 30-minute yoga session led by BRLA landowner and member Daphne Viders.

Gawk at some cars for a good cause
The Lewisboro Playground Improvement Project is hosting its first annual “Cars in the Park” at the Lewisboro Town Park. Come show off your own ride or browse the ones on display while enjoying coffee and breakfast. All proceeds go to the renovation of the Lewisboro Town Park playground.

Swap a bulb, save the planet

The North Salem Climate Smart Community Leadership Committee is hosting a light bulb swap event. Bring in up to six standard CFL bulbs and receive six energy-saving LED bulbs for free. Representatives from Sustainable Westchester will be in attendance to answer questions about the Community Solar and Community Choice Aggregations programs. This event is open to North Salem residents only.

Celebrate Oktoberfest
The Lewisboro Playground Improvement Project will be busy all Saturday long. In the afternoon, the group will host a family-friendly Oktoberfest event at the Lewisboro Town Park, complete with live music, games & crafts for kids, pumpkins, beer and hard cider and everyone’s favorite, a cornhole tournament.

Watch a Halloween flick at the farm

Get into the Halloween spirit at Muscoot Farm in Katonah, where they will be showing the original Ghostbusters movie. Bring a blanket or chairs; $20 per family.

Paint a masterpiece
Railyard Arts
in Croton Falls is hosting paint nights for both kids and adults this weekend. Friday night is for the kids and Saturday night is for adults. The studio’s talented instructors will guide participants to create seasonal scenes.

Speak for the trees
Lasdon Park’s horticulturist will lead a free guided walk to highlight the location of a few of Lasdon’s tree collections. Participants will discover the many ways trees are important to us and how they adjust to the arrival of autumn.
