It’s Homecoming weekend in North Salem. Here’s what’s happening.
The anticipation. The adrenaline. That rush of school and community pride that will have North Salem Middle School /High School rocking from Friday afternoon through Saturday night. It’s Homecoming weekend in North Salem.
Festivities kick off Friday at precisely 12:46 (period 8, for students) with a pep rally for all Middle School /High School students. Held at Tompkins Field, the rally will recognize all fall sports teams and their student athletes. A DJ will be on hand to keep the crowd going.
North Salem Athletic Director Denise Kiernan said North Salem fall sports teams will be called up and each athlete’s name announced before the teams proceed around the track in a parade of Tiger spirit. Following the pep rally, members of the senior class will have the opportunity to participate in a student senate dodgeball game organized by Jay Jazayeri, senior class adviser.
North Salem school officials are keeping a close eye on the weather, as rain is expected through the morning Friday. In the case of rain, pep rally festivities will move to the North Salem High School gym for juniors and seniors with all other students watching in classrooms via LocalLive.

During the pep rally, school entrances and facilities will be closed to the public. The Tompkins Field track will be closed from 11:30 a.m. through 2:10 p.m. The entrance to the MSHS on June Road will be closed from 12:00 p.m. through 1:30 p.m., reopening at 1:45 p.m. for regular dismissal and parent pick up. Parents who need to pick up students during the period in which access is restricted will need to enter the school via the Bloomer Road entrance and park along the right curb where the buses typically line up.
Saturday has a packed schedule and a sunny forecast. “We have seven games taking place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. through the last game starting at 4:00 p.m.,” Kiernan said. Attendees can look forward to a DJ, photo booth and pre-wrapped food for sale at the concession stand, including donuts, wedges, drinks, candy, chips and Italian ices. The North Salem Athletic Booster Club is seeking volunteers to help out with concessions and parking.
All Homecoming games will take place at Tompkins Field except for volleyball, which will be held in the High School gym. The Booster Club will hold senior recognition ceremonies at all varsity games. Masks, sign-ins and 3 feet of separation from others will be required for all spectators inside the gym.
