What to expect from Tropical Storm Elsa
Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to arrive in our area late tonight into Friday, bringing high winds and heavy rain capable of flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. While the major impacts are expected to be felt along coastal Connecticut and Long Island, significant rainfall is expected for our area throughout the day Friday.
Rain already took hold of the region today, with between 2 and 4 inches recorded by early evening. Severe flash flooding incidents were reported in Lower Westchester, trapping drivers on the Hutchinson River Parkway near Pelham during the evening commute.
On Friday, expect showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with expected rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches.
What to do as Elsa moves in:
- If you had beach or outdoor plans for Friday, cancel them
- Secure any unsecured objects around the outside of your home
- Beware of the potential for large tree limbs breaking off and downed power lines
- If you must travel, avoid roadways that are prone to flooding during heavy rains
