Things to do in and around town this weekend


This week is Earth Week, and while Earth Day was officially on Thursday, there is no shortage of earth-related activities to do in our area this weekend. Below, our picks for Earth Day celebrations and ways to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us.


Grow a Healthy Garden

Andrea Good and Pam Pooley from the North Salem Conservation Advisory Committee will demonstrate how you can restore land from a tangle of invasive plants to a pollinator habitat. The North Salem Open Land Foundation will be there with valuable handouts, as well as the North Salem Improvement Society with free bags and reusable straws.

“The Social Life of Trees”

Join the Lewisboro Land Trust and naturalist Jim Nordgren to learn how trees talk to, help and depend on each other. Then, join Nordgren for a stroll along Lewisboro Land Trust’s Nature Trail at Old Field Preserve in Waccabuc.

Teen Adventure Hike

Get your teens off their screens and out into nature with The Lewisboro Land Trust and the Lewisboro Library. This guided hike will take place at the Brownell Preserve in Goldens Bridge, along a trail that covers heavily forested, hilly terrain. There are scenic views across to Lake Katonah.

Hike with the FROGs

Friends of the Great Swamp is hosting a Sunday morning hike at the Pawling Nature Preserve. Look for blooming woodland flowers and woodland animals. These will be strenuous hikes with some steep sections leading to great views from the ridge.
