North Salem varsity basketball hosts season opener games

It was a long-awaited day, but finally it came: the North Salem High School varsity basketball teams played their first games of the season on Tuesday. The varsity boys hosted Haldane and lost 63-42 while the girls played at Haldane and came away with a 37-30 win. Anthony Foglia led the boys team with 10 points. Dana Connolly led the girls team with 12 points.

Fans were not allowed in the stands but were able to watch via LocalLive, a Stamford, Connecticut-based provider of live streaming services.

The North Salem Booster Club, in a pandemic-era fundraiser, sold "fans in the stands" cut outs that supporters could customize to represent themselves, family members, or even beloved pets.

Both teams are scheduled to face Haldane again this Thursday, February 18. The girls are scheduled to tip off at 4:30PM at home while the boys are scheduled to play away, with tip off at 6PM. A winter storm that is expected to dump several inches of snow on our area Thursday, which could potentially disrupt game schedules.
