North Salem Athletic Booster Club selling raffle tickets to support student athletes
It’s been a challenging and disappointing year for North Salem High School’s student athletes. Quarantines and uncertain seasons have made the activities that are often the highlight of a student athlete’s high school career impossible to count on and harder to enjoy. To help support these athletes during this most unusual year, The North Salem Booster Club is hosting a virtual fundraiser.
Proceeds raised by the Boosters will help fund annual traditions that the Club hosts, such as end-of-season dinners and the end-of-year senior awards night. This year, those traditions will be adapted in accordance with current pandemic restrictions. At the end of last school year, the Club organized a car parade through town in lieu of the senior awards night. This fall, the Club had special cookies made to distribute to athletes.
The Booster Club is inviting community members to participate in the fundraiser by purchasing raffle tickets. Winners will receive gift cards in amounts of $25 or $50 to local restaurants such as Aversano’s, the Blazer Pub, the Market at Union Hall, Farmer & The Fish and several others. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.
“Due to low membership this year and the fact that we could not host some of our yearly events, we thought it would be a fun way to raise some money for our athletes while also supporting the local eateries that continually support us,” said Lynn Zoubok, Booster Club vice president of membership & sponsorship.
Zoubok said the Booster Club purchased many of the gift cards to avoid putting pressure on already struggling local restaurants. Most gifts cards are valued at either $25 or $50 and vary by eatery. One grand prize winner will win a basket of gift cards worth over $500 from all of the participating businesses.
Past Booster Club projects have funded initiatives such as a new portable fence at Tompkins Field, a new scoreboard for the high school baseball field and a new Tiger mascot costume. With funds raised fro the current drive, the Club hopes to help fund additional score board upgrades at Volunteers Field and at the softball field at Pequenakonck Elementary.
Raffle tickets can be purchased via Venmo (@NorthSalem-BoosterClub) or with checks made payable to NSABC. All payments must be received no later than 5PM on Wednesday, February 24. Winners will be notified on Friday, February 26.
