Just over 12 hours before Pequenakonck Elementary School (PQ) students were scheduled to return to school on a hybrid schedule following a month of all remote instruction, the North Salem School District announced that PQ will instead pivot to all remote instruction on Monday and Tuesday, January 11 and 12.

In a note sent to families at 6:52PM on Sunday night, Superintendent Ken Freeston said, "due to a staffing shortage, PQ will be all remote for Monday, January 11th, and Tuesday, January 12th, for all students. Staffing availability will be reassessed on Tuesday and a decision regarding the plans for Wednesday through Friday will be communicated by Tuesday afternoon. "

The abrupt change once again left parents scrambling to rearrange schedules and secure childcare. No further information was provided about the staffing shortage or how it may be addressed by Wednesday.

North Salem Middle School/High school will resume the blended model of hybrid learning as planned on Monday, January 11.
